you mentioned in a previous post that you use a hand crown stapler for enginered and bamboo. Please explain, is this a hand held ( not air )stapler? If so how do you get the correct angle. Did you say it was from the big orange home store.

P Dixon,

That recommendation was from on me to Gary or from pro to pro. I am not disparaging your ability to use said tool but it is not something I can in good faith recommend to a DIY’er. The crown stapler shoots the same stapes as any of the trigger actuated engineered floor staplers but it can shoot up to 2” lengths which I have yet to find one of the purpose built ones that shoots at that length.

The reason that I don’t recommend using a straight crown staper for a DIY’er is due to the fact that you either have to build a jig for it so that it engages correctly or you have to build up a feel for doing it freehand. I personally do it freehand as it is much faster but there is no room for error.

The crown stapler is a air tool and it can be purchased at any home store but my recommendation to you would be to look at the Spot Nails gun it is the de-facto preference of the pro’s on this board.

kls thanx for replying. The freehand part sounds a little tricky. No local rentals stores rent the smaller stapler, like the spotnails or floor runner,so I was thinking of buying the straight crown stapler, but probably not now.
