Hi everybody,

Been lurking here for a while just reading up but have not found an answer to this yet.

I have a hallway 3 feet wide by 24 long and the last 8 feet turns into concrete slab. I intend to nail down everything but the portion over slab. I will have to glue that. Anyway, I am hoping I can use PL Premium urethane adhesive in a caulk tube as the only trowel type urethane available locally is 5 gal and runs about $175. I would like to avoid having to spend that much for 24 sq ft.

Will this work or not? If so, how much should I use and what pattern suggested? If not, what are your recommendations for my hallway?

Thanks again in advance for any help. This is a great forum and I really appreciate the advice.

Solid or engineered? I personally wouldn't glue solid, except for a parquet. If you just had no choice but to glue a solid, I'd be using a full spread adhesive, not just applying it with a caulking gun.

Sorry, Yeah it is solid 3/4" hickory. If not glue down, what do you suggest as an alternative?

I ran into the same thing once and ended up gluing it down with liquid nails. Not that I would do it all the time but I had no other options at the time and the customer was willing to take the risk. All I had were tubes but I emptied them and troweled it out. If you insist on the wood in that area that is probably your only option.

Don't have a choice really. Hallway extends 14 feet over wood subfloor, switches to concrete slab for 8 feet and then dumps into the master bedroom addition we just added. All of this is going to be the same wood.

Anyway, the job you did with liquid nails, how did it turn out? Do you know whether the floor ever failed?

If available in your area... Bostik has Bostik's Best in cartridges , & Sika has the sausages.

I never got a call back on it. As floorologist recommends if you can get Bostik's Best in a gallon or in tubes I would go with one of those. I used the Liquid nails because I was in the middle of nowhere and had it with me.

While gluing a solid product to concrete is never a recommended procedure, sometimes you just gotta think outside the box so to speak, and bend the rules to fit the project.
Prior to installing anything in this area, sort your material out, selecting only the straightest boards for installation over the concrete.
Use a urethane glue in a "full-trowel" process and strap the boards together plus weigh them down with sandbags or concrete blocks or whatever you have on hand. I once used buckets of water when nothing else was available.

Thanks for all the advice guys, I'm still searching for a smaller amount of trowel grade adhesive. I really want to do this right so I don't have problems later.

The big boxes have gallons or is it two gallons, and use some Bostiks MVP first.

Or Mapei, WFM Planiseal.

Get out the phonebook and look in the yellow pages under Flooring distributors or Flooring supplies, it is listed differently in every city. Call and as if they have gallons of moisture cure, urethane wood flooring adhesive. I have found gallons of Bostik's Best before.
