Hi,

I need very piece of advice and suggestion on my first temp of pre-finished solid hardwood installation(Bolivian Rosewood).

I have installed half of a room. When I measure from the edge of the installed row on the two ends to the finishing wall, I realize there is about 1 inch of difference. In other words, the line of the installed planks in the middle of the room is not parallel to the ending wall. The ending wall is on the high traffic and visible area so I don't want the plank looking off against the wall.

As I still have half way to go, is there any way I can adjust so that the line of planks will be eventually parallel to the wall when coming to the end?

This is my first time to do it. Really in the learning curve. I appreciate any advice.

Thanks a million!

You can try this. It may help. On the end that is further away from the wall you are working toward, place a couple of putty knifes between each course of flooring; one near the end of the course and one about 2 ft away from the end. The blades of the knifes will rest against the TOP of the tongues and still allow the flooring tongues and grooves to be engaged. This will create a small gap of about 1/32". If you lay 32 more boards to complete room install, you will have made up the 1" difference. You can try using thicker objects to create larger gaps but run the risk of the T&G not engaging well enough. 1/16" would be the largest gap I would attempt. After installation, any gaps can be filled with a colored caulk.

Thanks for your quick response.
I have some questions on your suggestion:
-Will the gap make some planks somehow loose since they are not tightly against each other?
-What type of caulk are you referring to? The wood I'm intalling has little bevel on both of the top edge. Will applying caulk make the gaps more noticeable?

No, that is why the response of 1/16th, is the most Gary is willing to go. The t&g keeps things from moving up and down.
