I've wanted to replace our carpet with wood for a while now. I've put it off because I knew the subfloor was gypcrete and I didn't really like the idea of a floating floor. I finally accepted that floating is the best way to go and started removing the carpet only to discover the gypcrete is uneven. I've got a 6 1/2 section that slopes upward going towards one wall. I don't know precisely how much but it looks like the height difference could be as much as 1/4 inch. What do I do now? Is there an easy fix for a DIYer? Should I just forget about wood and put in a new carpet?

There's only very very rare instances when I tell people to go buy carpet instead of wood.

Ardex makes a topping for gypcrete, or you can just use a SLC with primer (self leveling compound). Was 6 1/2 figure inches or feet?

6.5 feet. It could also be a dip in the middle of the floor. I will know once I finish removing the carpet. If it's a dip would that be easier to fix?

Discussions I've found on this topic point towards using ardex p-51 to prime and then leveling with ardex gs-4. Would you need to prime the entire floor or just the affected sections?

A dip is easier to fix. Just get yourself a straight edge longer than the dip, and screed the filler accross the dip.
