Got my delivery of hardwood and treads/risers on Friday. The treads I have are the prefinished retro treads which are not as thick as the regular treads and they come with the nosing already in place. The installer who is helping came by and advised the regular prefinished treads (instead of retro treads) are better.

Should I be concerned about the retro treads? Anyone with experience with both types and can share their experience? I am considering replacing retro with regular treads - I have to do it today as my install is tomorrow.

thank you.

I believe the retro treads are thinner except for the nosing and go directly over the plywood, Instead of solid treads on the stringers. I have thought of trying them at some point. I don't think there is anything wrong with them but price wise I don't know how they compare.

Ok , must be these guys? They say you can actually pop these right over carpet. Or pull the carpet, and you dont have to cut the overhang off. Pretty interesting concept. Gotta love it...They make it sound like you install it on your coffee break
