 Post subject: gluing solid oak as a floating floor

Hi All, need some advise

Can i lay solid oak as a floating floor and glue in the groves and not on the under lay

You can do anything you want.

Will it last, I doubt it. Too much shrink and swell and too much area, for it to all stay together.

Ya, I would recommend against gluing it DOWN as an alternative, as you indicated you might do. Solid products (IMO) should only be mechanically fastened to the subfloor to allow for normal movement

thanks for the advise

with regards to acclimatise, ive had the wood sitting boxed in the house for over 3 weeks but only took out of the boxes yesterday ready to lay this afternoon is this ok ???

By the book, no. In actual fact, if material MC is within 3% of sub-floor MC, and house is at live in conditions, then I would say go ahead and lay it.

Thanks Dennis this is all new to me

been living here for the past 3 months house is 20yrs old although was vacant for 10 months before moving in i would say thats live in conditions i think i will go ahead and start laying
