I bought a Uniclic longstrip engineered hardwood product to install in our condo (above grade concrete subfloor)

I would prefer to glue it down to achieve a more 'solid' feel underfoot.

Is it possible or a good idea to glue down this type of flooring? What would be the recommended installation? Should I glue it directly to the concrete or should an underlay also be used? What type of underlay?

The manufacturer's installation instructions mention the possibility of gluing down, but no details are provided.

The specific product is Sunfloor California Longstrip Uniclic in natural walnut.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I must admit that I am not familiar with your particular product, but if the manufacturer says it can be glued down, call them for a recommendation on a specific glue and the proper trowel. If they can't provide a specific one (which happens all to often these days since many products are made in china and the person answering the phone has no clue, at least find out if they recommend water based or urethane based glue.) Urethane glue requires a proper cleaner or mineral spirits to remove it while its wet or it will damage the finish. Also , make sure your floor is exceptonally flat prior to starting or gaps will be extremely evident with longstrip.

I will add that I am no fan of longstrip flooring! The joints are almost always super visible and I feel that it ends up looking like laminate and not authentic. For this reason, I might recommend floating it in case
you are not 100% satisfied. Pulling longstrip out of glue is a messy and labor intensive job. Hope this helps.

Oh yeah, by the way. Most condos in my area are gypsum concrete
subfloors and if that is the case for you, don't even consider glueing it down. Float it over gyp-crete.

I had a few spots of Apac urethane cure on me last year , tried every thing to remove it , finally i called the apac tech support in Carolina .. After the guy stopped laughing and telling how great the glue was , he said to get some mineral spirits and a Mr Clean magic eraser for $2.00 and gently rub it as not to mar the finish .. worked great .. would never have thought of the eraser in a million years ..
