I bought a high quality engineered 5 inch wide plank (santos mahogany) that I'm gluing down on concrete. It has a thick 4 mm wear layer and the typical aluminum oxide pre-finished surface typical of most engineered floors.

I'm trying very hard to do a clean install and wipe off any glue with a damp rag so it doesn't harden and cure and keep my hands clean.

But I'm having more problems just with fingerprints and smudges. A small glob of glue seems to come off easy, but a fingerprint with glue residue smudge seems almost impossible to wipe off - even if I do it in a matter of seconds after it happens. My floors are dark and they tend to show everything.

I'm just wondering if I'm doing something wrong, or if there's a simple cleaner that will take these smudges off. I've heard people say mineral spirits, but I want to make sure I don't damage or dis-color the finish.

After reading on here I went to lowes and bought a few things.

I tried mineral spirits 1st, and bingo! Everything came off. I'm not using a urethane glue, though. I bought the bruce everbond that comes in a plastic tub.
