I hope someone can help with this question.

We are considering BR-111 5/16" solid Teak for our kitchen and dining room. The dining room floor is concrete covered plywood, but the kitchen is 1" plank sub floor with about a half inch gap between each board to the crawlspace below.

Two installers we've contacted have said they would want to glue the floor down instead of nail it because it is so thin even though BR-111 says it can be nailed.
I'm concerned because I don't want to glue the new flooring directly to the subfloor with gaps in it. That just doesn't seem right. It's open to the elements below. Seems like there should be some sort of barrier between them (which would preclude the gluing).

Is it really that much of a problem to nail it down or are these installers just being picky?

Thanks!

You should be able to nail that flooring down with the right nailer. A Floor Runner should work just fine. Or a Power Nailer Model 200. Spot Nails makes an 18 gauge stapler, as does Senco. All these could install that floor. Maybe those installers you contacted did not have those nailers. If you want to have it glued, you will need 3/8" CDX plywood UNDERLAYMENT installed over that solid wood/lumber SUBFLOOR.

Thanks for the quick reply.
I really don't want to glue it down because I don't want to have to put more plywood on top of the subfloor. We're goind with the thinner wood because we want to avoid a big step up between the kitchen and the rest of the house.
If we nail it down, what goes between the new wood and the subfloor?

I have used these with good results. Always use what the manufacturer recommends;
