I recently had 1000 sq. ft. of 5" engineered hardwood planks installed. The four-person crew worked a 10.5 hour day to complete the project so it was not completed until 8:30 p.m.
When they were finished, I checked over the floors, but since all the furniture and lamps were removed I could not see every little thing. I paid them the remainder (50%), but the next day when it was light out, I noticed spots of glue on top of the wood planks and there were two places that had glue coming up between the planks. I asked the firm if they would come back and remove the glue because I'm fearful of damaging my floors and they agreed to come back out. It has been two weeks now and they are not responding. My question is -- is this typical. Should they return or is this just my problem since they are paid 100%.
BY the way, other than the glue spots my floors are incredibly beautiful.
P.S. The glue used is MAPEI 995.
Thanks so much for taking time to respond.

In good faith they should have been back within days.

Are they members with Angies List or anything? If they blow you off again, mention how much you like to do web reviews...and that yours will not be positive.

It's hard to see those little smudges without some reflection on the floor from a strong light source. But I'da been there the next day because the longer you wait, the harder it is to get off and can etch the finish.

As in anything else..the extent and amount if marks is important to how its handled..glue between boards should be addressed and while there another cleaning offered.
After we finish a glue install we clean as we go and then once after done.
Then i leave the owner with a realistic expectation and advise cleaning procedure shud they find something we missed..

James,
Thanks for your response. When the floor was installed, the installers were cleaning up with Acetone. There were no instructions on cleanup issues and I did not even think to ask -- it had been a long two days because the day before I had 900 square feet of ceramic tile removed which was another 4-person crew for a very long day, and that contractor did a fabulous job. Can you recommend something I can use to clean up glue/smudges that will not damage my floors.

Thanks for responding.

Regards, Lucy.

Since things are dry now i would use some lacquer thinner.
Soak a rag and use your finger to pick and ..a plastic putty knife in the rag will work

Don't soak the floor but use enough to soften an remove the glue
