We're refinishing 600 sq ft of 100+ yr old, unfinished hardwood floors at the end of the week & have a couple of general questions about the upkeep. We're almost positive at this point that we'll be using an oil sealer with 3-4 coats of "Pro Finish" water based polyurethane from Home Depot (only what our budget allows & we need to do these floors asap).
Since we've never had hardwood floors to upkeep in the past, we have no idea what to expect. Is there some sort of basic guess-timate figures on how many years it would be until we'd have to recoat? The areas being refinished are the living/dining/foyer areas - 3 kids & no dogs. We've read up on the process of refinishing but are just confused on what's to happen a few years down the road. Will we need to just recoat or do we have to sand again if there's no real damage, just dullness. Any help would be appreciated...Thanks!
