Hello,
I am going to buy an old house with carpeting over plywood, which is on top of the original Hardwood floors. I am not aware of the condition of the floors, still hope to salvage them. Can anyone help me the likely steps I should take here.

Thanks

I can't help you with the salvaging, but I wonder, since carpet can go over just about any type of problem, why was plywood put down over the original hardwood floors? Maybe to alleviate squeeking, because the support structure under the hardwood was inadequate?

Most likely the ply is fastened down to the hardwood so it's going to be trashed.
