For other folks also trying to get familiar with wood flooring for their home (e.g., types, manufacturing and installation techniques), I found the refernce manual marked below very useful in addition to the information at HardwoodInstaller.com.

I am not saying the manufacturer's product is good, just that this an informative read.

Nice find Palm Guy. I especially like the comparison of laminate and hardwood floors.

On Laminte Floors--

Moisture resistance: "Better read the fine print"

That is so very true. I handled some of that stuff going back five years ago and ....it will be affected with the slighest hint of moisture.

Those labor rates mentioned are out of date although I know some guys that will still work for those prices. Even though I'm a wood bigot at heart, I'd have to disagree with replacing laminate floors every eight years--only problem is laminate floors have only been around for eight years or so now in the states. I would say they have 10-15 years life if cared for well--higher quality and not the .99 cent sales deals. Anybody else?
