The boards are still pretty tight side by side together (along the long edges of the boards). There really isn't a significant difference between boards that cupped and the boards that didn't cup (there are a couple places where the boards remained fairly flat - where they didn't cup). There may be a slight difference but it isn't much. Where I do see the occasional gap is between the ends of boards. They did seem to move a bit from the day the flooring was installed as I don't remember these gaps back then.

That sounds like compression to me. The boards that are flat, had some small gap when installed.
