Yikes, I think I need help! I didn't realize how to make the transition from my hardwoods to a carpeted area. I ran the hardwoods right up to the edge without a perpendicular piece for the transition. The edges of the hardwood pieces are not totally flush with each other. Not sure if it makes a difference, but the carpeted area is lower in elevation by about 8".

What are my options? Is there a way to cut off the very end of each of the pieces and fit a perpendicular transition piece? I don't know of a saw that could get the pieces closest to the frame of the entry into the other room.

Please help this inexperienced dummy!

You will need something straight. If you can find a straight 2x4 , you can use that as a straight edge against your floor. You can then set it into place with some finish nails or whatever way seems good. Then you run a skill saw against it to cut a straight line in the floor. The skill saw wont go all the way to the wall so either hand cut, chisel or use whatever you have to finish the cut.

Thanks for the reply. Would it make sense to do a threshold piece here instead of trying to cut across? It seems like it may not look quite as nice to do a threshold piece, but is that acceptable?
