I am looking to put down floating cherry floors. As it stands, it seems that my only options are Kahr (I like the 2 strip Genua) and the WFI (quater sawn American cherry 5"). Both use a square edge. Asthetically, I think that would nicer than a micro beveled floor, but I am concerned about imperfect edge to edge butts.

Given the high reputation of these companies, especially with regard to milling and quality control, will these "sock catchers" be a problem?

If so, is there another company which floats American cherry?

BTW, I am also concerned about the relatively high price of Kahr and WFI, so even if the square edges won't be a problem, does anyone have any suggestions for a possible less expensive alternative for a decent floating cherry?

Thanks

Adam

I have no experience with WFI but I have put down a good bit of the Kahrs. It's smooth as a table top. Having said that I always get the subfloor or slab within specs before it's installed.

I don't think that the sq. edge is a real big issue on floating floors. It is a concern though on prefinished solid strip floors. More difficult to get down without any overwood.
