Hello everyone,
I have had much success in DIY installing 1/2 inch solid bamboo using the nail down method in my previous first floor residences.

My new condominium is located on the second floor with a flat wood sub-floor with no significant moisture levels. While there are no direct sound codes to adhere to, I am interested in laying 1/4 inch cork under the 1/2 inch solid bamboo. In order to maintain any sound deadening qualities of the cork, i have read that nailing is not recommended.

Therefore, my question is:

In trying to preserve the sound deadening properties, is it possible or even recommended to glue the cork to the wood sub-floor, and then glue the solid bamboo to the cork underlayment?

The fact that this type of install is not mentioned on many websites, makes me think NO. But I wanted to hear options or recommendations from those in the know

Thank you.

(I also want to use the cork under the tile in the bathrooms and kitchen. This type of install has been seen online, but in reality does it work? Just in case one can refer me somewhere on this type of install.)

The best way to reduce (isolate) sound transmisson in that situation is a floating subfloor with cork under it, then nail to the floating subfloor. I would not glue without fastening down a new plywood underlayment if thats the way you want to go.

Always check with your manufacturer first.

Theres better crack isolation membranes you can use under tile than cork. Schulter Ditra is one.
