Does anyone have any expierence with the flush mount heating vents? Are they a pain to install or what? Also, does the fact you are butting up the ends of the wood to the frame cause any expansion problems?

Any tips/ pros or cons would be helpful, thanks!

Anyone?

I talked to the guy who makes the vents. Basically I need a custom made 13x13 in the floor vent for my cold air return and think the flush ones would look SWEET!

He said he makes two kinds of flush mount vents-one with a frame (like 3/4 of an inch wide) around it. To install you would glue/nail the frame to the subfloor, then simply just butt the ends of the wood boards to it (no grooves or anything in the frame), and then a framless version that he said to install you would cut a wood template the same size of the vent-screw it on the subfloor, then install the floor (again butting the ends to the template-no interlocking grooves or tongues or anything) and then remove the template and install the vent directly after you are done.

Anyone see any issues that might arise? This thing is going to cost $120 so I want to be damn sure it will work and look good!

Vents shouldn't be to hard to install along with a new floor (IMO they're harder to install in an existing floor). I've always had tongue and grooving around mine. If yours doesn't have grooves you should probably use glue (Titebond or something).
