We have a solid wood finished in place merbau floor that has been damaged by water in our laundry room/hallway. We have been given the go ahead by our insurance company to replace the entire floor since it is one continuous floor. The floor itself is beautiful and durable however it was installed improperly by the original owners. It has cupped throughout and has some loose subfloor issues, so it's hard to justify saving by trying to fix the damaged area and sanding. Our dilemma is what to put in its place that will be just as durable in a darker color palette. We have lived on the floor for six years and while it will ding if something heavy is dropped on it this stuff just doesn't seem to scratch.
We have looked at a bunch of solid and engineered products. We live in Southern California and most of the flooring stores recommend engineered. One store pushes Gemwoods, another this and that but they all seem to scratch easily and come from China. Since we have three kids and a dog we want something as durable as what we currently have. We've checked out Owens plank floor and while it seems to be great quality we didn't like their color selections. Does anyone have any suggestions on a quality brand that comes in a darker brown/yellow brown like Gemwoods Acacia San Jose?
