I have been given differing views of what kind of floor can be installed in a 500 sq ft room over an unheated garage. I live in upstate NY. The garage ceiling is sheet-rocked with some insulation. The room is only heated by a woodstove, so it can be as cold as the the outside temp, or quite warm inside. Currently there is vinyl tile which is coming up in places after 30 years. Some flooring folks have suggested that any kind of wood floor is unadvisable, and are pushing for Luxury Vinyl Plank, especially due to moisture. One says a nailed hardwood floor is fine, and a third suggested engineered wood is possible if glued down. I do not prefer vinyl, but I’m not up for re-doing the floor once it fails. What is the collective opinion here? Wood, engineered, or Vinyl Plank?
