We are getting ready to install a new wood floor. In front of the raised hearth, there is a strip of conrete about 4 inches wide by about 4 feet long. We were initially planning to install the wood perpendicular to the hearth. Any suggestions as to how to deal with this? The fireplace is flanked by built-in bookcases so framing it might look odd.
