Have removed old carpet, tack strips, and padding from 2nd level floor on tri-level condo. I see that carpet padding was glued to gypcrete. Do I need to fully remove the adhesive and small remnants of padding stuck to adhesive? I intend to lay down a 2-in-1 vapor barrier/cushioning and float an engineered flooring after testing for moisture and leveling.

Any feedback or suggestions would be much appreciated..

Thanks in advance,

S.C.

Your not going to get the glue residue, but yes, get the chunks. Sometimes all it takes is the bottom of your tennis shoe, scuffing at it.

Thanks Floorguy. Do you recommend me using any adhesive remover like Goo Gone or Jasco? Or just take my floor scraper and a lot of elbow grease?

The glue residue is a non issue. As Floorguy said, just "kick" off the chuncks of stuck-on carpet pad. Forget the adhesive remover. No need to get crazy here. But you DO need to check for FLATNESS with a square edge. Fill the lows and grind the highs.
