We bought our house 2 years ago, at that time we sanded down the original hardwood floors and put semi-gloss polyurethane in 3 of the rooms. It was about 50 degrees in here (didn't have our heat put in yet) and the floors came out nice but without any shine to them. We have since used the same poly on 2 other rooms and one came out so shiney it looks like an iceskating rink and the other room has just a little shine. Does temperature play a part in how shiney the floor will be? Does anyone have any ideas for toning down the shiney floors we have to match the other rooms? Thanks :?

I would suspect that either the finish you used was not mixed very well, improperly labeled or flawed in some way. Finishes all start out the same (glossy) then the semi-gloss and satin finishes are made by adding flattening agents. The agents need to be mixed well so the sheen is even. All you can do at this point is to recoat the floor that is too shiny. Perhaps the store where you bought the finish will supply some more at no charge. The only thing temperature effects usually is time to dry.
