I would appreciate a little advice on how to layout the wood for the attached sketch. It is an enclosed porch, with windows all along the 50 ft side. The other sides are brick. Only two doors to be concerned with.

Obvious answer is to start the layout along the windows and work toward the house. I was thinking about doing a diagonal layout, but wonder if that would look ok with this shape. Also thinking about dividing tyhe floor into three areas, divided by a 2 or 3 board border with an accent strip.

Well, now I can't figger out how to attach the sketch, so I;ll close this and come back in a few minuites. Just read the faq's and it looks like I can't attach my sketch.

Try to imagine a long narow rextangle. 50 ft long and 8 ft wide. In the middle, it bumps out 6 ft wide by 21 ft long. The door to the outside is roughly in the middle of the 50 ft wall, and the door to the kitchen is in one of the 6 ft walls of the bump. Clear? Good.

Ya know, for long narrow areas, I like a larger pattern parquet. I know it's not popular anymore but it just seems to me that long, narrow strip floors look like bowling alleys. Just my 2 cents, FWIW.

I had not thought of it that way, but you're right ... a bowling alley comes to mind. That's why I was thinking about a non-linear pattern. Maybe straight laid for the two wings, and a diamond in the middle. Is diamond the right word?

Good suggestion, Gary. I did a foyer, and entry hall in parquet, and laid it on a diagonal. You'd never think plain ole parquet could look so good. Took longer then I expected, but...

bordering it would look good and doing a 45* layout would work also

Direct light onto the floor? Direct light causes color changes and rapidly.
I like the suggestions so far. I think I would start with the question?
"what finished look do you want??
Barn Look?
Formal ?
Informal?
Exterior sun room?

Parquet, although not todays most popular pattern, is still my favorite as the linear "bowling alley" look is eliminated. Parquet can be the best performer as well.
