I ripped out the carpet in my family room and find that the concrete looks like a bit of a mess at the outer walls of the room. This might be normal, but I wanted to run it by you all just in case. The photo below shows the worst looking area. You are seeing (from bottom to top):
0. Carpet pad (I'll be removing that and the glue under it).
1. The concrete foundation.
2. Nail holes from the tack strip, and concrete chipping (there's a lot of that along this whole wall and the next wall over).
3. Flexible board (some kind of fibrous material used as a concrete joint).
4. A gap which is perhaps one to two inches deep.
5. The concrete footer.
6. Baseboard (will be removing that before installing the new floor).
Do I need to do anything about the nail holes, chips, and this weird area that I've just described before I can float flooring over it? I am floating Bruce 3/8" engineered maple over Armstrong quiet comfort underlayment. I'm guessing that since it's right up to two of the walls that it's not a major concern, but I wanted to check with you first.
