Hi All. I do not have any flooring experience but I wanted to bounce an idea off of you guys and see if it is possible. I know this will be met with resistance by many of the pros here.

I am moving into a rental for 15 months. The entire apartment is hardwood floor except the bedroom. (aprox 100sf/ft)

I would like to add laminate over the 1/4" carpet in a temporary way meaning I will need to pull it up when I move out. I can not glue or nail to the ground. No ripping up any carpet. It needs to be a temporary solution.

I have found the trafficMaster "click in place" laminate flooring that requires no glue or nailing. (http://www.homedepot.com/b/Flooring-Lam ... vZare1Zdfo)

Here is a guy that did it on youtube with the same brand (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UWjifTTSUFc)

To clear some things up, I KNOW this will void any warranty. I am not too concerned if the project fails considering it will only cost about $120 for the actual materials. Knowing that, what are your opinions. Can it be done?

I understand that there may be a little give/squishyness but is that too much of a concern? This is a high-rise building and the subfloor is concrete. I do not plan on doing much in the room other than sitting at a desk or sleeping in a King bed which you can imagine takes up most of the room.

Thoughts or concerns? GO!

Before you start laying the flooring, you should lay down some aqua bar building paper perpendicular to the direction you lay your flooring. This will help support the flooring a lot better by spreading the weight and protect the carpet while you are working on it. There will be some sawdust when you lay the floor and a quick sweep with a broom will clean the kraft paper. Tape the seams with regular masking tape before you start.
Use a five inch wide laminate minimum width. Ease the sharp edges where it will be exposed with a block plane or sandpaper.
