question 1 - I am going to try to put in a floating floor, preferably bamboo, in a meditation room. The floor is concrete, and I will be trying level it first to ensure that it is flat (no dips). Assuming I can do that successfully, it was suggested to put down rigid foamboard insulation (1/2" or maybe 1") as the subfloor. This would supposedly avoid moisture problems and ensure a flat surface to put the floor on top of. Does this make sense?

question 2 - the bamboo flooring I looked at is sold in 36" lengths. It says it can be installed as a floating floor, but I am concerned that the length is fairly short in terms of distributing weight when someone walks on it. The width is about 3.75".

I hope to do 3 rooms, 150 sq ft, 350 sq ft and 950 sq ft.

any help would be appreciated.

The only problem with the foam board is the height you will end up with.If you do a good enough job with the leveling the normal underlayment pad should be fine, but don't forget to use a moisture barrier over concrete(6 mil poly). As far as the material go to a regular flooring retailer not Home Depot, Lowes, Lumber Liquidators, and get a click together floor they come in wider and longer lengths.around 8" X 7'.

No concern over the product size....nearly all manufacturers today approve their 3" and wider products for floating installations. I routinely float 3" width products with random lengths between 12"-46" with no problems.

Is that a solid or engineered product? I've seen where some bamboo manufactures say you can float it, I won't. Is there any finish on the T&G that you can see? If so do not float it.

What I am saying is if the prep isn't to par go with the larger boards. With the glue together floater if if bounces around is can break the bond.
