I have 2 quests. I live in central CA in a pretty temperate climate. I just bought a house and I am planning to put in an engineered hardwood floor. The local hardwood flooring store sent out a guy to give me an estimate. I had some concerns about the moisture in the slab floor as the seller had disclosed that there was some moisture by the closet near the front door. The guy brought his moisture meter and measured it. I don't recall the actual value from the measurement but he said it was well with in reason. Being that it is summer I figured it would be low but he said that it should not be an issue as long as I used a moisture bearer. I am still nervous so I am looking for some suggestions on how seal the concrete.

My second question. The guy that came out to give me an estimate told me something I had not heard before. He said that if I am floating the floor I don't need to glue the tongue and grove except for maybe the first and last couple of rows. Anyone ever hear of this and if so how well does this wok?

Electronic concrete meters do have some value as far as finding hot spots but cannot tell you a quantitative value. So I would do further testing with Wagner Rapid Rh probes. Most adhesive manufacturers still want moisture tests done even though your going to use their moisture barrier. That goes with floating floor 2 n 1 underlayments as well.

Second question, never heard of it either unless it is a new system of some sort like that mat system, forgot the name. Get the name of the system and then check their website installation pdf, everyone has one.

Thanks for the response. He was just using a standard 2 in 1, not one of the adhesive ones. I still can't believe you can float a floor with out gluing it, unless the T&G was extremely tight or it was a snap together I could see it separating as it expanded and contracted.

I believe some of the products that don't have a true locking end just one that drops into place say to glue the first 2 rows, then the rest is a click lock floor.

Thats a 2 and 5G system but they do not need to be glued at all.
