I have a floor that the cliant would like to have refinished, but it looks like it may have been installed too wet. On one level the floor was installed directly over a wood stove that is in the room below, so the floor gets baked in the winter with mostly wood being burnt for heat. On a lower level the floor was installed over a insulated but unheated room. Since I am only looking at sanding and finishing I am looking for a viable solution to the gaping up to 1/4" in some places. my thought was put a kerf down the boards, and then put sika flex or some other flexible caulking in the kerf/gaps. any thoughts? btw this in in western washington state so their is humidity :)

This is a tricky situation but something like Minwax Color putty might work best. There is also a caulk type of filler called colorite that might work well. I've never seen the colorite locally but others on the forum have used it

Sounds like I might have to suggest a flexible filler.
It will have to be flexible filler, nothing, or rip up the floor, any other thoughts? Anybody out there use Colorite before on something like this, with good results?

I have used Color Rites matching siliconized acrylic caulk on pre-finished for quite a while. But your situation is different. They manufacturer all different types of color matched sealants and adhesives. They're good people over there...I would give them a call and tell them your situation, so they can recommend what's best.

I dont know, a 1/4" filled is not pretty but If thats the only option. Is there too many spots that you cant cut out a row and custom mill a row going a little wider?
