sorry if this has been answered, I couldnt think of the proper search terms.

I am going to be installing 3/4" x 2.25" solid in my LR, DR, foyer, and family room. The rooms create a large U shape. If I install perpendicular to the joists no matter what wall I chose to start on that wall will be interruppted somewhere along its length. either by the closet in the foyer (this wall would span across the LR, foyer, and family room) or by a 2 foot long wall that seperates the living room and dining room.

Am I supposed to start on each side of the interruption so that the boards meet in perfect alignment beyond the interruption? that sounds like it could be difficult. I wouldnt be able to run them up and out to the interruption and then use the floor nailer beyond the interruption to work my way back to the first wall. Am I supposed to face nail all the way back.

Im sure this is a common issue with a simple solution, but I dont know it with this being my first hardwood floor installation.

thanks

The solution for this is to just start the first row out far enough out from the wall to compensate for this. Then use some spline to back fill the other area. If you get your measurement from the wall just right you can even account for spacing an make it so you won't have any ripped boards along that wall.
