I am building a cabin and was looking for suggestions for the hardwood. I will be installing the flooring myself, so would it be worth the extra money to go with a prefinished wood? I have refinished a couple of floors with moderate success (they looked good, but not great). Also, when would you use a floating floor?

Also, is it reasonable to get 3/4" thick, 5" wide plank for under $4/sq. ft.? I have seen several under $4, but how much quality am I sacrificing to stay under this price.

I know there are a ton of other questions that I am forgetting, but this is a start.

Prefinished, if you don't trust anyone to do a professional job.

Floating floors are good when moisture vapor emissions are accelerated, from below the flooring.

Price shopping.... That's up to you. Remember, you will always get what you pay for, and there is such a thing as "too good to be true"
