I've got 60 year old floors that have been covered with dense foam pad and carpet forover 50 years. Upon tearing out the carpet, the floors looked pretty good. However, since there were two areas that were worn down to bare wood, I decided to completely strip and refinish.
I sanded using 36-60-100 and then applied a base coat. It looked fine until I applied the first coat of water-based satin urathane. It looks like I put in on unevenly becaue it is darker & thicker near the edges. The whole surface seems a little rough.
I'm wondering if I need to sand it all down and re-start or if some light sanding i all that is needed. Since the coat is uneven (thinker at the edges) I'm not sure just light sanding will result in a uniform look.
I had a really hard time seeing the urathane as I put it on which is why I think it is uneven. Any suggestions on how to gert this right the next time?
