I'm trying to cut my prefinished stair nosing and the finish is peeling even though I am using tape (blue painters tape). I have tried getting a brand new blade (Crosscutting blade) and it improved slightly, but not enough for it to not be noticeable. The finish is Aluminum Oxide and the wood is Brazilian Cherry.

Does anyone have any advice/tricks?

Thanks!

When cutting treds, and other scribe fit cuts....I will score the line with a sharp utility knife. On treds, just use a square. Be extra careful with your hand that's holding the square in place, in case the knife slips off the square,( spoken from experience, ouch ).

Thanks, that seemed to help a bit.. peeling/flaking is still there, but minimal. Was a bit tough to score it since I had to do it on a 45 degree angle.
Just an FYI to anyone else out there- I tried to score it directly on the board itself-which caused some major bubbling.. doing it on top of the blue painters tape seemed to minimize it. There also seems to be more bubbles if you score it too much.

This finish gives the wood a hard protective shell but doesn't change the natural beauty of the wood.

Prefinished Brazilian cherry comes from the manufacturer with seven layers of aluminum oxide and two layers of an anti-scratch top coat. This finish gives the wood a hard protective shell but doesn't change the natural beauty of the wood.

That does not look like a very clean sharp cut to me. Looks like the piece moved initially, then the blade cut in. Try cutting slower. Great pictures!
