Hi all;

I've got an upper floor that looks down onto the second floor with a large radius in the one corner of the floor (with railing and banisters too) . How do I finish this decently? Can I get standard bullnosing curved to the radius ?

Any suggestions are appreciated.

Millwork shops will mill you up a nosing. Take some felt paper and cut your pattern, and let them know the thickness of the wood floor your installing, and by all meens, when installing it, dont cut it short! :shock:

We work with 3 different stair companies in the Toronto area that will come on-site, take the template, make the nosing and finish to match the floor you have selected. They will remove and re-install the existing railing or replace with a new one of your choice.
This is not cheap, but very efficient. Assuming it is not against the rules here, I could give you a contact name for this work.

Hi Dennis. Trying to conserve $$$ but then again I know my limits. If I got the nosing made how hard of a job is it to do?

Kane: its not rocket science, but it does require a fair amount of woodworking/carpentry skills.
Keith: thanx

Thanks Dennis. I've found a place that will mill me a radius nosing....I'm going to shave the existing 2' x 2' nosing to make it flush with the dryway between the upper floor and lower ceiling. (I hope I'm describing this properly for everybodies benefit)

I've removed the banister from the steel bracket and am in the process of pulling up the balusters (hey those are glued in too!! Nice.) to trace a nice template for the millwork place to work with.

2 Questions if I may:
1) Am I on the right track?
2) Would you cut the balusters down .75" or rasie the whole shooting match up .75" I'm hoping building code won"t matter on 3/4 of an inch as it seems the easiest thing to do...well from my vantage point anyway.

From YYZ; regards; Gary
