I noticed finish irregularities with a mullican solid prefinished. The rep. Thinks its no big deal. Also overwood problems were discovered with this wood. I stopped the job and contacted the rep. He thinks upon his review that since the overwood does not stop a credit card it does not constitute a claim. Any thoughts steve

What type of finish irregularities, and how much of the wood is affected ?

Yes, the thickness of a credit card has been the "rule of thumb" for pre-finished overwood.

You did the right thing by stopping the installation.
Overwood is a defect.
If finish issues are visible during the install, you are to separate the bad planks. If too many you should stop the install, which you did.

Overwood on an INSTALLED floor can have a credit card thick difference...

Each manufacturer can now write their own specifications on acceptable amount of overwood, but consumers cannot be forced to accept the wood if they were not pre-warned the wood can have overwood.

Hmm..which one is it? :?

Every square edge pre-finished hardwood floor exhibits overwood.

We have never installed a prefinished floor that did not have overwood. And we have always been told a credit card was acceptable. If you do not want any overwood you should go with a site finished floor.

I wonder what the overwood is on your typical hand scraped floor. I side with the rep on that one.

In my opinion A credit card is way too much overwood, I try to not go more then a business card. Difference in finish is a defect but while installing most of the time you can't see it while installing and standing right over it. It's only after t's in the middle of the floor and you stand back in the right light that it shows. Drives me crazy.

Still like to see what finish issues he is talking about. And how many like Howard says. Percentage counts. Should installer have caught it?
