Hello, we installed an insert fireplace, it is a kit with mantel, hearth...etc. The problem is the floor is not even and now there is a relief all around the perimeter of the hearth, worse on one side then the other.

There is some play, but the hearth needs to sit level, but i am not sure how to finish this off now. The mantel and hearth are easily removed if needed. I am handy and not afraid to try anything, but i want it to look right. I just don't know what does look right.

Running some edging around the hearth in its current spot does not appeal to me (Wife :) )

I was thinking of removing the hearth, and building a raised floor where the hearth would sit, finishing off the edges to mirror the hearth, but not sure how this would look.

Any suggestions?

I think if you raise the hearth you'll still see a difference but it won't be as great.

Tough choice here. I can't think of an immediate solution, but give it a day and maybe we can dream up something.

Maybe the hearth can be lowered on the right side and all you would need is a larger plinth block? But then that would affect the other side slightly. It also looks like you have a baseboard problem on the right side as well? I'm thinking lack of baseboard to nail trim if that was your intention?

yes, tough one indeed. Hoping someone has seen something like this before on their job sites.

If i raised it i would not be dropping a block of maple under it and leaving it. I was thinking of making someting so it was tappered to the floor. Just thinking out loud.

There use to be a wood burning fireplace at this spot. I'm not a home builder, but there was a concrete base, at floor level. Basically where the hearth is now, only a foot or two bigger all around. When i replaced the flooring i i poured leveling cemet ot bring it up to grade with the reset of the floor...not enough i guess :) . You never noticed before.

There lies the problem. If the hearth sat below the floor a tad you wouldn't notice it so much. Demo time. :P
