I do appreciate the excellent shop talk so I’d like to hear anyone’s opinion on filling the top nail holes in my flooring. AS most of you pros know you can’t always get close to the wall at the end of the job with a pneumatic stapler (bostich stapler was awesome on 5/8 inch pre-finished horizontal aluminum oxide bamboo), so I had to top nail my flooring with some finishing nails. What’s the best way to fill those holes left over? Glue, sawdust, store bought filler?

Thanks in advance for the advice

I just did this today! I tried a few colors of Woodwise prefinished nail hole filler but didn't care for how it looked. I ended up mixing a few colors of Color Putty (that's the brand name). The downside is there is no finish on the filled hole so if viewed from a certain angle, you can see the filled hole, even if the color matches perfectly. The nature of the beast, so to speak.

I just filled a bunch of nail holes on my maple floor using this putty stuff called "Touch Up Stik." The color matches great on the lighter pieces but I have already discovered that it collects anything that is brushed over the top of it so the filled nail holes quickly get discolored. I'll be looking for somthing that hardens up.

Did you stain/polyurethane over top of the filler? I'd like to do this also.

If its carbonized bamboo use Minwax "golden oak" You wont be able to find the nail hole 5 minutes later, there is the finish issue as Gary mentioned though.

I always keep a nail polish container of satin, semi-gloss or gloss urethane (depending on the finish) close at hand. Just hit the area lightly with some screen and then brush it with the polish brush. If done well you cannot tell that it was ever there. As well I keep a pack of colored permanent sharpie pens with me so I can color in the grain if need be. It’s not real hard once you get use to it and you can do some pretty amazing repairs.
