Hi Folks,
I'm new, so "be nice" I am about to put down my FIRST HD floor. I would class myself as an intermediate level woodworker and a reasonably good carpenter. The floor is 3/4" Red Oak over a concrete slab. I think I have the basics down. I plan to put down 23/32 CDX as a under layment. I will use a Bostich stapler and I think the various posts I have read have convinced me to purchase a 15 gauge nailer. I already have a 16 gauge but the comments made about the difference make a good case for the 15 guage nail. I do have a couple of questions I'm sure someone can help me out.
1. In a doorway where I am going to put a threshold, howfar into the doorway do I extend the under layment? I'm thinking it is simply a measurement question so that I do not push the threshold through the doorway into the next room too far.
2. I'm thinking that I should install the thresholds BEFORE I lay the floor. In most of the doorways the floor will be running perpendicular to the threshold. By installing the threshold first I can be sure the planks are tight to the threshold.
Thanks
