Putting down 3/4" oak hardwood flooring. Removed molding around floors.
Molding is only 3/8" wide and I'm hoping to avoid purchasing shoe molding.

Is there any reason I can't cut 7/8" or 1" gap from sub floor to clear 3/4" hardwood flooring and utilize the existing 1/2" drywall for my expansion gap ?

Thanks,
Ronald

This is a great way to provide an expansion gap. It is messy from all the dust, but we use vacuums now after sweeping most of it up!
We also undercut the door casing and jambs to the height of the flooring.
