Hi everyone, I'm new here to this forum, and I just had a few questions before I started my hardwood flooring project.

Since this is my first time doing a big flooring project like this, I wanted to make sure that there isn't any problem with the equipment I am planning to use and techniques.

Wood: 3/4 in. thick prestained and finished oak
Nails and guns: a 45 degree hardwood staple nailer along with an 18 gauge 90 degree nail gun + 2 inch long nails

So as far as I know, the procedure is to take out the molding, level the floor, add the flooring paper, then put in the floor with a gap by the walls and perpendicular to the beams. If there are no problems with this procedure and equipment, then I have a few questions about things I might encounter in the flooring.

1. Expansion due to temperature and humidity-Where I live the winter and summer can be up to 90-100 degrees F difference in temperature. I am worried about expansion problems because of the way my house is set up. Immediately when you enter in the front door, you are standing in a hallway with staircase in front of you. Directly left there is a living room and to the right there is a dining room. Due to the direction of the beams, the hardwood will be placed so that it reaches from the end of the dining room through the hall all the way into the end of the living room. The distance is probably about 12 yards. Is this going to cause issues when the temperature changes from winter to summer?. I did some simple calculations and based on solely temperature, oak of that length should expand about 1/2 to 3/4 inch which is also the specification for the gap the manufacturer says to leave between the floor and the drywall (3/4 inch).

2. We will also be tearing out our cabinets during this project to put in new ones. Should the hardwood floor go under the new cabinets or around?

3. Are there any aesthetics that I could/should pay attention to to make my hardwood floor look the best it can look?

Wood scarcely expands in the length. It's the width you want to look out for.
Basically get the mfg's installation instructions most state 35% to 55% relative humidity and 60 degrees to 80 degrees temperature. If you need a humidifier or dehumidifier to accomplish this then get one. RH is a bigger factor than temperature regarding expansion. Depending on the time of year you install will determine what to look out for. Moisture content must be between 6% to 9% but can go higher if you live in a very humid area. Heating hardwood in winter can cause very low humidity which will result in gaps until summer typically arrives. Then high humidity may require a dehumidifier. Subflloor must not exceed 12% for plywood moisture content and ideally 7 1/2% moisture content. There should be no more than a 4% difference at the time of installation. You will need a moisture meter to assess these differences. Follow mfg nailing schedule.
