Installing hardwood flooring up to already installed kitchen cabinets. The cabinets have been raised to accomodate the 3/4" flooring that will be installed up to them (for appliance's sake).

My question: How does one remedy the differential between a 3/8" - 3/4" expansion allowance and a toe-kick vaneer of only 1/4". Is 1/4-round the only option to bridge the gap?

I've searched everywhere for info on this but have been unsuccessful.

B, quarter round is probably the easiest solution, tho maybe not the most attractive. You can also face the toekick area with a thicker material first (i.e. 1/2 mdf) and mount the toekick veneer to that face, allowing you additional coverage. One warning though....if you bring the toekick forward in that manner, you will see the raw edge of your 1/2" backing material if the cabinets do not end at a wall or appliance. If so, you may need to band the edge. Hope that helps!

Thanks, that was another option I had considered. Luckily it's a galley kitchen, so cabs go wall-to-wall. I'd really prefer not to have to use quarter-round and I'd prefer not to loose any toekick depth at all - but "it is what it is", I suppose.

Since I'm only looking at about a 6' wide run, I'm also thinking I can get away without the standard 3/4" and pull only about 3/8" (which would create a somewhat smaller gap to bridge).

Thanks!

Remove the thin 1/4" or so veneer that is on the kicks now. Install the flooring as close as possible; 3/8" should be fine. Install 1/4 plywood, masonite or ? on the face of the kicks to shim out the 1/4" cabinet veneer. Then install the 1/4" veneer over that. It's done this way all the time. You'll lose the thickness of the shimming stock in toe-kick depth.
