I am currently looking to install my first hardwood floor but I am running into one problem I am unsure of how to handle right now. My front door currently has a metal threshold that is about an 1 1/8" tall and is rounded on the side facing into the foyer. What is the best way to address this problem? It is prefinished 3/4" oak. I have enough T molding and end cap (baby theshold?) to be able to use either for this.

Thank you for any help you guys can provide!

Replace the threshold with an adjustable one. They are vertical on the inside. Easy.

I had looked at the adjustable threshold in the store, but was concerned about it running into the storm door. After looking some more online, it appears that they have some shorter thresholds that are less than 5". I will pick one up and take a look after work. If that is the case, I can just use my end cap and put that up to the threshold with the wood running underneath it.

I am only installing hardwood in the foyer and hallway for now, but plan to install more hardwood later on, so I am trying to make sure I install everything in the right direction to be able to easily do so. I am trying to avoid having to use thresholds in the middle of doorways. Does this look like I good floor layout?

Thank you again for your help!

Which direction do the joist go?

I would guess the foyer should go the same direction as the rest of the house

and looks like you will be doing some weaving when you want to continue it into the 13x13 room and the other room attached to it

The joist are running up and down, in respect to the image. The foyer would be running parallel to the joist, while the rest would be perpendicular to the joist. I was going to have the 13 x 13 room be a direction change to the foyer.

Thank you again!
