It's finally time to replace the 20 year-old floors in our house (well worn, cupped, face-nailed with finishing nails, 6-1/2 inch wide pine soffit boards with 1/8 to 1/4 inch gaps). I will be replacing this through most of the house, including the kitchen. We live in the Seattle area, and we always have wet feet besides, so I am strongly leaning towards engineered wood for stability. I was looking into 3/8" engineered floors (3" wide Gunstock Oak smooth) when I found that Bruce sells a 3/4" thick engineered floor (EWC3201). That sounds like a better idea to me - it would better match the height of other floors in the house without putting down 3/8 ply, and it seems like it would feel/sound more like a solid floor. It also appears that Mannington sells something similar (AMO03SH1). So my questions are:

1. Between Bruce and Mannington, which is better?
2. Are there other manufacturers of 3/4 engineered oak I should consider?
3. Both say they can be stapled, nailed, glued down or floated. I am considering stapling or nailing. Can I use a standard solid wood nailer?

Thanks!
Ken

I think Mannigton is the better of the 2. You will want to used an engineered flooring stapler for installation.
