I currently have ceramic tile over slab concrete. Can engineered hardward flooring be install over the ceramic tile -- the tile is in good shape and level.

Or does the tile have to be removed. Some installers say remove the tile while others say leave it down. Obviously if you do not remove the tile the floor will be higher, but most installers are saying that transitions will take care of that.

Thanks for responding.

I can probably dig up some information...thanks to Bing. Pros and cons. Be careful with "transitions will take care of that" unless they really know what they're talking about.

Hey, who is that installer on there? Did he give you permission to use those photos?

Like what Ken said, adhesive manufacturers say yes, but then they also have a surface profile requirement in the fine print, mostly a CSP 3 so the adhesive can grab. And tiles tend to have a very smooth surface so you can get into trouble there. I'd float it.

Typically when walking across a floor that is floated, there is that terrible "hollow" sound. Is there a way to overcome that issue.

Flat subfloors, thicker product and higher quality underlayment will help, but some can still feel a difference. Then again some will not know the difference.

Use nice Sound Block underlayment and problem will be solved. It can be 2/8-3/8 of the inch and will help a lot!!! Can be used on any floating floor.
