I am a bit confused. Some of the guys I talk to say that you always have to leave an expansion gap, even at the doors and up against the tile for a fireplace. But all the new houses in my neighborhood just butt up the wood flooring right up to the doors and the fireplaces, etc. They do leave an expansion all all the walls, etc. Which way is the right way? I would prefer to butt up, but just can't seem to get a good answer on this one. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

If the man says you need an expansion gap, and they do it everywhere but doors an hearths, ask them why?

There's ways to do it properly. I call it lazyness.
