Thread jacking??

It all pertains to the original post, doesn't it?

I don't think we are trying to baffle them with BS.

"Think before you speak" from Ray, is just asking for an intelligent response.

We are learning and teaching at the same time. I hope the less educated contractors that lurk, will get some benefit from the differing opinions, and common sense, approch we are giving.

Don't get me wrong, I certainly enjoy reading e-arguments as they are always entertaining. But as you can see from the original poster, it tends to lead to confusion from those of us that are non-professionals. Call it a debate or difference of opinion between two inspectors, call it mass overload and confusion for the rest of us!! :D

Way to investigate Kevin. I shows you really do care about nesika's concrens, and getting to the cause and the cure.

Yes, glad to see some attempt at accuracy. I probably underestimated humidity, but don't know where you got your numbers, and would like to know. After much googling, I found this:

http://www.wrcc.dri.edu/

They have it broken down in terms of average morning/afternoon humidity. Ashland's not there, but Medford is less than 20 miles away. July/Aug shows average of about 28% in afternoon, 80% in morning. It always FEELS dry here, and any account you find in Chamber of Commerce sorts of places talk about Ashland's dry summers.

More important, though is this, to repeat myself for I think the third time: my hygrometer readings in house vs. basement show only a couple of points difference, like 36 or so up, and 34 down. So, if a disequalibrium in above/below humidity is the culprit for the cupping, where's the beef? Maybe the hygrometer isn't absolutely accurate, but I think I can trust its RELATIVE accuracy. 30 minutes ago, the below reading was 41%, and I brought it upstairs. Now the inside is 39%.

Am I assuming something I shouldn't?

OK, Kev, help me out here: go to the page where you found the Ashland average, copy the web page address, and post it here. I'm not finding anything for Ashland, and nothing in the way of AVERAGE for Medford.

For a one year history, try this page. It was a little difficult to find on the Ashland page.

This page doesn't have Ashland, but it has Medford.

Great, Serbonze! I can usually track stuff down, via google, but this part of wunderground escaped me. I was amazed to see how all over the board the RHs were. I copy/pasted the numbers from July/August into Excel, and THINK the average RH for that period was about 49% Someone less mathmatically challenged can check me out on that...........

Get ahold of your brain, Ray. Or at least, if possible, link your brain to the words you spew. Proofread, Ray, before you hit the submit button. And try to choose between too much and to little humidity being my problem. And. if possible, address the numbers I've given about RH in and below my home. It's simple.

Moisture meter readings at various depths into the flooring and into the subfloor(if wood) are going to be the only really true clue to what is really happening. Everything else said here by me or anyone, is just opinionated speculation.

Would anyone agree that is the only fact we really know about this senerio?
Fact or fiction.!
