I want to replace some of the flooring in the house I just bought with a 3/8 engineered Brazillian Cherry. It is tongue and groove recommended for a glue/nail down installation. The house is on a concrete slab and I am not sure about the moisture content (though the slab is only about 4" thick and we are not in a flood zone or anything), so I am reluctant to try a glue down installation. I would like to try gluing the tongue and grooves together and installing it on a felt pad with a vapor barrier.

Also, the floor is currently compsed of the original 1953 vinyl tile floor (which I found when I removed the not-so-original 1975ish carpet). The tiles seem to be in good shape except for a few spots that I could patch up before laying the floor. I know that if I have to do a glue down, I will have to take up all the tiles and glue down some plywood, but if I float the floor, would I still have to take up the tile?

Thanks in advance for your advice.

If the manufacturer does NOT state that your flooring can be installed as a floating floor, then you should not attempt to install it that way. Double check with the manufacturer IF the floor can be floated.

After further thought and consulting with a contractor, I think we'd like to go with a click together type of engineered floor (Schon) instead. We live near a Lumber Liquidators here in Ohio and that is the least expensive place to get it. I've seen quite a few posts here questioning the quality of LL products, but if I make sure that I install it correctly, would I still have problems (i.e. is the problem with the product or the installation with others experience there)? Is there a good reason not to go to LL?

There's one thing in life that's never going to change , and that is you usually get what you pay for. Is Schon an LL product or a manufacturers brand they just distribute and you could also buy elsewhere?

As far as I can tell, the only place to buy it (even online) is LL... I suppose it is possible that they actually manufacture it and that Schon is simply a brand name within a brand name. Or, possibly, they simply have an exclusive deal with them to sell their product. Since I could not find a Schon website, the chance that LL makes it themselves is more likely, I guess.

It is a LL exclusive, just like Bellawood & Durawood.

It is, what it is.
