Hi:
I live in So. Cal.
Received a quote for @ 1000 sf of engineered flooring.
Job is glue down over concrete.
Floor is Mohawk 1/2" engineered oak.
There is approx 188 sf of ceramic tile that needs to be removed.
Price includes labor (carpet removal, ceramic tile removal, furniture..)
Also includes moisture barrier & glue down application.
$15k is the estimated cost.
Am I getting fleeced or is this a good price?
I've seen this particular floor on the net @$6 sf material only.

I personal think that's quite high. But hey, you live in SO Cally.

You can buy 1000 sq ft high quality 1/2 inch engineered oak with a thick wear layer on the internet easily under 5 bucks a square. You can even get exotics like brazilian cherry or santos mahogany in that $5 range, and oak is always cheaper to buy.

Glue down it messier and expensive. But it shouldn't be more than $5 sq ft to install on concrete, and that includes the glue and supplies. The labor charge is usually 3.50/ sq on concrete, and the rest is for supplies and glue.

Your total cost is $15/sf installed. I think that's crazy for enginereed oak.

Get several quotes, and then compare and make sure your comparing apples to apples.

I could do it for less, but most flooring stores will subcontract out the labor, and then also mark up the subcontractors charges, so a profit is also made on the installation sales.

Your better off cost wise, buying over the internet, and selecting your own installation professional.

Adhesives can be purchased locally, from the distributor, direct. That saves a lot of cost.

With engineered, you may or may not need a moisture blocker. Only by testing the concrete, will that be determined.
