Hi, I have a 1940 house with original pine floorboards which I'm considering sanding back and polishing. I also have two large dogs who are frequently inside. My question is....are pine floorboards and dogs compatible? I expect that there would be a certain amount of scratches but is there a sealer that could minimise the depth and sight of the scratches?

Thanks for any advice

Gordy

Correct me if I am mistaken, your Australian pine is what we call "Australian Cypress". Does it have lots of knots? If so, Australian Cypress should perform similar to our North American Red Oak and is actually a tad harder.

You will have scratches due to your large dogs but that should be viewed as "character" . More often than not the grain pattern and knots in your floor should hide many of the scratches.
