I want to remove about 800 sq' of parquet flooring that has been glued over the original oak wood flooring. I have scraped up a couple of tiles to see what I am dealing with. The parquet has a wire running through it and is very difficult to hammer up. I have read about a parquet removal job on this site about how Hard Wood Installer took out parquet flooring over a concrete slab by first cutting the floor into sections with a circular saw, scraping the tiles up by using a crow bar and sledge hammer. This sounds like it may severly damage the underlying wood flooring. I've also courted the idea of using some sort of electric floor stripper/commercial floor scraper but once again am worried about damaging the wood floor underneath. This is a massive amount of floor to get up. Any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated:)

Well the first thing you have to do is ask yourself WHY someone put this parquet floor over the original hardwood.
Something tells me it was to cover up a worn out floor or damage of some sort.
So anticipate that there probably is no real need to worry about your removal of the parquet damaging the hardwood, you will probably be uncovering a dog's breakfast anyway, and willl have to remove it as well.

If you feel compelled to save the hardwood under the parque, use a Hilti TE505, with a wide Vulcan scraper blade. I have 3 of them, ( I use for other applications ), but this is perfect for what your trying to do. They are available at HD rental dept.
